Coral Catastrophe
My two children and I were in the Mayan Riviera for summer vacation. Everything was going perfectly until the fourth day. We were snorkeling around a reef, having a great time, when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my foot. I cut myself on the coral! I managed to get back to shore (my kids following me frantically) but the cut was pretty bad. The lifeguard said I would probably need stitches and would definitely need to get it checked out in case of a possible infection.
So I immediately called ASSIST-CARD. They sent an ambulance to the scene, and perhaps even more amazing – a professional babysitter to take care of my kids! I ended up with 22 stitches in my foot and was released later that night. But the fact that I didn’t have to worry about the kids roaming around the hospital or being bored out of their minds was priceless. Anna (the babysitter ASSIST-CARD sent) even took them to the cafeteria to get ice cream! When we were saying goodbye and thanks to Anna after the whole ordeal was over, my younger child Kelly asked her if she could be her babysitter all the time. I winked at her and said, “No offense, but let’s hope not!"
